The simplest approach to obtain your PR in Australia is to enroll in any of the top courses to study in Australia to get it. It will make you eligible for the desired outcome. Many people end up going to Australia after completing the course; which are not much in demand there. So it is always better to prepare in advance for the courses. And especially those courses that are demanding, and plan your career according to them. Australia needs competent immigrants with strong educational backgrounds to contribute to its national economy.  

To obtain PR in Australia, you must have a specialized vocation. And this is mostly applicable to occupations like doctor, engineer, dentist, social worker, mechanical engineer, chef, psychiatrist, etc. Generally speaking, it is comparatively easier to get a PR invitation for a profession that is in great demand and for which very few people have the necessary qualifications and expertise.  

The first thing you should remember is that the course you select must align with your previous education; that is, it should match your previous education. Now you have to be mindful that courses are just a part of getting the PR. It is not the ONLY thing. You also need to have other qualifications like age, English skills, work experience, and many others.

1. Engineering 

Australia has a high demand for engineers, especially Civil and Mechanical Engineers. This is one of the top courses to study in Australia to get PR. So you can pursue this degree in any university offering Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) degrees in Australia. It is usually a 4-year full-time degree. With many scholarships, you can jump up to a Ph.D. degree after the honors degree. 

With the skilled migration program, international students can secure post-graduate employment to obtain PR. Your employment can assist you in obtaining an Australia PR through an Australian skilled nominated visa 190, a skilled regional visa 491, or even an independent skilled visa 189. 

2. IT and Software Engineer Courses 

As technology continues to boom, software engineers and IT security professionals are in high demand. Almost every big organization is willing to sponsor you for a Temporary Skill Shortage 482 visa if you are not eligible for a state-nominated visa. 

It is better to study IT in a regional area for Permanent residency through visa 491 and visa 190 streams and for career development, especially in developing regions of Australia. 

There are a number of fields you can choose from, including Cyber Security Specialist, Analyst Programmer, Developer Programmer, Software Engineer, Applications Programmer, and ICT business analyst. Therefore, if you want to pursue a career in either of these fields, you should take science in your 12th year.  

An IT bachelor’s degree normally requires three years of full-time study in Australia, and a master’s degree requires two years of full-time study. In Australia, skill assessment requires either a professional year program or 1 year of work experience for graduates in the IT field.  

3. Teacher 

Despite not being listed on the Priority Migration Skilled Occupations list, this occupation continues to be in demand in Australia. In Australia, teachers must possess a university degree. If you want to go for early childhood teaching, primary school teaching, and secondary school teaching, you might complete a four-year Bachelor’s degree. In the event that you already have a bachelor’s degree, you might consider studying for a master’s degree in education. 

People who wish to teach a particular subject in Australia can participate in double degree programs offered by universities. For example, the University of Adelaide offers a ‘Bachelor of Teaching (Middle)/Bachelor of Music’ program, which qualifies you to become a teacher and develops your expertise in a certain area.

Registered nurses are in extremely high demand in Australia and have been prioritized for Permanent residency through skilled visa 190 or 491 in each state. 

Due to its affordable courses and quick registration, nursing is one of the most sought-after courses in the health industry in Australia.

You will have to get registered before starting to work as a Nurse. 

Keep in mind that to be a registered nurse English requirement is relatively high in the health industry. 

Registered nurses must work for three months to obtain a positive skill assessment from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. 

5. Medical 

Medical degrees like MBBS and MD in Australia are expensive, and it can take up to 7 years before you can apply for PR. However, it might be worth it if you are interested in the job since it is highly paid and there is always a demand for medical professionals. 

You may opt to be a- Medical Practitioner, Resident Medical Officer, or General Practitioner. Highly skilled medical professionals always have to register to work in Australia, and this certification must be recognized in Australia. 

With work experience, you can get permanent residency in Australia either with a skilled visa option or through an employer sponsorship program. 

To apply for an MBBS or MD course in Australia, international students must meet the minimum academic requirements, which include having completed the equivalent of Australian Year 12 with a high enough score to meet the entry requirements of the chosen university. 6. Trade courses 

For trade occupations to qualify for a Trades Recognition Australia positive skill assessment, a job-ready program must be completed with a minimum of 12 months of full-time work experience. These are also among one of the top courses to study in Australia to get PR.

Keep in mind that trade course graduates can only get an 18-24 months temporary graduate visa 485. 

A good plan can help you get permanent residency in Australia on a budget, but trades workers are in very high demand in Australia. 

Among the trade courses, you can be a Motor Mechanic. To pursue a career in this field, you can study a certificate 3 or 4 in Automotive. Generally, it takes two years to complete, including a Certificate III, a Certificate IV, and a management diploma

You can choose to be-  

  • Bike Mechanic 
  • Automotive Electrician 
  • Motor Mechanic, and
  • Diesel Motor Mechanic 

In addition, if you are interested in a career in construction but have a smaller budget. Then you can go for a Vocational Education and Training program related to building and construction. 

There are also trade courses that lead to employment opportunities in household appliances and furniture. These are Carpenters, Electricians, Welders, and Refrigerator or AC Mechanic. 

7. Hospitality 

Now, if the Arts stream interests you more, then this course is just for you. Do at least two years of Diploma in Hospitality. This field also is considered as one of the top courses to study in Australia to get PR.

Most of these courses include a compulsory vocational placement that exposes students to real-world work situations. Because Australia is very concerned that you know how to do your job exceptionally well. If you are a chef, you must be used to all the complexities of this job. 

However, the most popular pathway is to start studying Certificate 3 or 4 in Commercial cooking. It is so because of its way to a temporary graduate visa 485. You will need this visa to do the job-ready program and seek nominations from states. 

Otherwise, at least three years of full-time study will be sufficient to obtain a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management. 

8. Accounting 

If you are good at maths and have a special interest in calculations, you can choose the commerce stream. And then you can take up bachelor’s and master’s courses in Accounting and other related courses. Like medical professionals, Accountants are also in high demand in Australia.
